Inlay is a decorative technique of inserting pieces of coloured materials into depressions in a base object to form patterns or pictures. In this instance, different types of wood are cut in the shape of each item and then glued together. Inlays commonly use wood veneer cut from trees such as Cedar, Mahoe, Spanish Elm and Bitter wood. Inlay is commonly used in production of decorative furniture, here pieces of coloured wood are inserted into the veneer.

A Tribute to Beryl Rankine

The name BERYL is mentioned in the Bible and is the name for a precious stone.  This is such an appropriate name for our mother because she was so precious and we will always treasure her in our hearts.

B       is for Beloved.  You have been a beloved mother and in turn we have been blessed with the capacity to show love to others

E       is for “Earth-Mother” because you were a mother to so many.  You did not differentiate between the children you gave birth to and the ones who crossed your path.  You showed such love and caring to every child that you came in contact with.

R       is for Respect.  You lived your life in such a way that you did not have to claim Respect; it was just freely and willingly given to you.  You were such a role model to us all because you practiced what you preached.

Y       is for all the things that you are to us.

You are our Hero

You are our friend and confidant

You are the yard-stick that we measure ourselves by

          You are our BELOVED

You are in our hearts always

L       is for Legacy.  As we look back at your life with pride, we count ourselves blessed to have had you as our mother.  We were always willing to share you with others because you were just too good to keep to ourselves.  Your legacy consists of so many people who loved and respect you.

It is often been said that “It takes a village to raise a child”, throughout your life you have been a “one woman village” and so many of us today can shake our heads and attest to this.

Thanks for being our beloved mother!

From your children

Joy, Maureen, Monica, Michael, Greg, Howard, Phil, Sherill & Kim
